WAI shares insight into common air conditioning faults

Tuesday 19 May 2026

Leading electrical solutions supplier, WAI Europe, has offered insight into what workshops should be looking out for when servicing air conditioning (AC) units.

As the Summer season is fast approaching, increased usage of AC units is incredibly likely. WAI is placing impetus on spreading awareness of common faults and key maintenance information, benefitting garages across the continent.

Jochem Hanegraaf, AC Product Manager at WAI Europe, commented: “One of the most common issues garages start seeing with AC units ahead of Summer is the lack of cool dry air spreading in the vehicle cabin, resulting in fogged up windows and uncomfortably high temperatures inside.”

WAI Europe is sharing its best practice tips and common air conditioning faults. Hanegraaf added: “Fogged up windows, no cool air from the AC system and abnormal noises such as hissing, knocking or squeaking, are all telling signs that air quality inside the cabin may be compromised.

“Most of the time, the condenser is broken, the refrigerant gas escapes and air is not dried and cooled. In some cases, the AC compressor is also broken, producing hot air when colder settings are turned on. Both components are vital to the AC system.”

Condensers serve a critical role in the air conditioning cycle, dissipating heat from the high‑pressure refrigerant gas so it can condense back into a liquid before circulating again.

WAI’s expansive AC condenser range has been engineered with advanced corrosion protection, ensuring these components maintain performance levels while battling against harsh environments, moisture and road contaminants, factors that commonly accelerate wear and reduce system efficiency.

In addition to advising workshops on common faults, WAI also suggests AC filters should be checked annually to ensure proper cabin air quality. “A filter cleans the cabin air leaving bacteria and fungus out.” Hanegraaf continues. “The condenser cools and dries the air with a thermal reaction. Almost all modern condensers have a dryer included, which carries moisture away from your AC system, and makes your cabin healthy again.”

WAI has established itself as a leader in the rotating electrics sector with an aftermarket range that covers 88 percent of the European car parc, catering for a wide range of vehicles such as trucks, heavy duty, electric and hybrid vehicles.
