Magneti Marelli Timing Chain Kit: the range expands, servicing gets simpler

Thursday 30 Jul 2026

Magneti Marelli Parts & Services is expanding its Timing Chain Kit range with new Super-Kits and new part numbers for VVT (Variable Valve Timing) camshaft phasers and OCV (Oil Control Valve) valves, further extending available application coverage.

Variable valve timing: precision for performance
Noise at idle, engine warning light on, loss of power: when variable valve timing falls outside tolerance, diagnosis often involves a component that is not always easy to find in the aftermarket.
In engines equipped with VVT technology, the ECU controls the OCV, a solenoid valve that modulates and directs oil flow to the camshaft phaser. The phaser changes the relative position between the camshaft and crankshaft, advancing or retarding valve timing according to engine speed and load, helping optimize torque, power, fuel consumption, and emissions. A component that does not meet specifications may show symptoms like those of more complex mechanical failures, making diagnosis more challenging and, over time, affecting engine reliability.

New Super-Kits for integrated repairs
The new Super-Kits combine chains or belts, water pumps, gaskets, and small parts in a single part number. This combination reflects established maintenance practice, as the water pump is often driven by the same transmission time, avoiding a second repair shortly afterwards

Build quality and advanced testing
The components are manufactured using specific metallurgical processes, such as carbonitriding of the chain links, Chrovan surface treatment, and induction hardening of the sprocket teeth. Production takes place in IATF 16949-certified plants, where components undergo dedicated checks, from high-pressure test benches to leak-tightness and electrical insulation tests on OCV valves.

Tools and support for repair professionals

To support workshop operations, each package includes a QR code providing access to installation instructions and application-specific information. The full catalogue, including kit composition, OE references, and technical data, is available online in the spare parts section of the website, as well as in the main aftermarket electronic catalogues.

All kits come in dedicated packaging designed to ensure adequate protection for the most delicate components. With this range extension, Magneti Marelli Parts & Services further strengthens its engine timing offering, providing the aftermarket with complete solutions for servicing latest-generation engines
