Banner – Europe’s leading manufacturer of lead-acid batteries and battery accessories – has disclosed its performance figures for the 2024/25 financial year, with The Power Company remaining on a growth trajectory.
Having seen sales increase to 4.2 million units (+200,000) and revenues grow to €312 million (+€10 million), and against what The Power Company claims was a ‘challenging automotive market environment’, Banner continues to enjoy a healthy export ratio of 95% and remains focused on continued positive development.
With €25 million investments over the past three years, Banner remains confident that the European lead-acid battery market will remain strong, as its impressive gains in both volume and turnover clearly indicate. Indeed its performance serves to underpin Banner’s prominence as a trusted supplier, whether in relation to starter/onboard units or in custom energy applications.
Aftermarket Growth
Despite witnessing a decline in new vehicle production in the OEM market, this has been offset by an ongoing stronger aftermarket trend, thanks to rising vehicle age – up nearly two years in Europe – which has significantly increased replacement demand. Supporting this claim is the overall performance of the UK aftermarket operation that has once again recorded continued growth in terms of both sales and profitability.
As Country Manager, Lee Quinney states: “Overall demand from the automotive sector continues to be buoyant here in the UK, as is the case with the CV, leisure and bike sectors, however what is underpinning our performance is not only the quality of Banner’s product offering, but also the strength of the brand at O/E level, and unprecedented levels of product availability that our customers have access to,”
Indeed with over 90% of electric vehicles still using 12 V lead‑acid batteries for onboard systems due to their durability, recyclability, and cost‑efficiency, demand within Europe is likely to remain strong, with the aftermarket being the driving force.
Business Unit Energy Solutions
Also continuing to perform well is Banner’s Energy Solutions division. Here Its three segments – traction, semi‑traction, and stationary energy systems – serve a wide range of applications, from electric‑forklift batteries to golf cart and aerial‑work‑platform systems, and critical‑infrastructure UPS units. And with Banner planning to further develop its presence in stationary systems, it remains confident in its ability to leverage its core expertise to meet growing demands for reliable and safe energy solutions.
Ongoing Investment
Having invested €10 million in the past 12 months, a significant amount has been spent planning and executing upgrading the maintenance workshop with new tooling capacities. Equally, Banner has established a new vocational training centre that is being used to support the mentoring of ten apprentices – five in technical fields (electrical engineering) and five in commercial roles. This state‑of‑the‑art facility features a fully equipped classroom and practical learning stations to foster enthusiasm for technology and innovation.
