Autowave launches step-by-step tutorials: Peugeot Boxer 2023 transponder clone first up!

Tuesday 1 Jul 2025

In a new series of written step-by-step guides, Autowave is delighted to support workshop technicians and locksmiths with clear, detailed instructions on how to get the most from their replacement key and programming equipment.

From individual vehicle transponder cloning to advanced diagnostics, key coding and remote programming, this content is an invaluable resource for professionals looking to save time, reduce errors, tackle specific vehicles and expand their capabilities with confidence.

To start the series, Autowave’s Ravi Kotecha explains how to clone a transponder on a Peugeot Boxer 2023.

You’ll need the following:
Original working key

SIP22 blank key (ready for cutting)

Xhorse Superchip (XT27)

Xhorse Key Tool Max Pro

Wi-Fi connection (for online calculation)

Step one: Verify the original key works

Insert the original key into the ignition and start the vehicle to confirm it functions correctly.

Step two: Check clonability

On the Key Tool Max Pro device, navigate to the main screen and choose the ‘Transponder Clone’ option. Insert the original key into the transponder coil of the device and tap ‘Read Transponder’. This will identify the chip type; in this case, it will read as an ‘ID46 transponder’. The system will confirm if the chip is cloneable; if it shows ‘Clone Status: Cloneable’, proceed by tapping ‘Clone’.

Step three: Begin cloning process

Follow the cloning instructions as prompted: confirm that you’re using the original key and then place the device’s antenna near the ignition coil to begin data collection. After a few seconds, the screen will display ‘Data Acquisition Complete’. You’ll then be asked to place the original key back into the transponder coil for further verification. Once the screen reads ‘Key Password Success’, remove the original key.

Step four: Insert and write to Superchip

At this point, insert your Xhorse Superchip into the Key Tool Max Pro. It will automatically detect the chip and begin writing the data. After a few moments, you should see ‘Copy Successfully’ appear on the screen, confirming that the transponder has been cloned.

Step five: Confirm cloning success

To verify, use the Key Tool Max Pro to read the transponder again. The ID number on the cloned chip should match the original key; in this instance, it ended with ‘CO20’. Once confirmed, insert the chip into the housing of the newly cut SIP22 key.

Step six: On-vehicle test

To check the success of the cloning, try starting the vehicle with the newly cut key – without the chip inserted. The vehicle will crank but not start. Insert the chip and try again; this time, the vehicle should start immediately, proving that the clone was successful.

Outcome

In just a few minutes, you’ve cloned a 2023 Peugeot Boxer key using the Xhorse Key Tool Max Pro and a Xhorse Superchip.
