Delphi urges aftermarket to prepare for rise of Chinese vehicle brands

Wednesday 21 Oct 2026

Delphi, a brand of PHINIA Inc., a diversified, industrial supplier and global leader in the development of fuel systems, electrical systems, and aftermarket solutions, is urging workshops and motor factors to prepare for the changing UK vehicle parc as Chinese vehicle manufacturers continue to gain market share and create new servicing and repair opportunities.

The trend is a key focus of Delphi’s Make Some Noise. Delphi – Built for Silence campaign, which aims to spark discussion around the issues shaping braking, vehicle safety, and the future of the independent aftermarket.

As more Chinese-built vehicles enter UK workshops, Delphi says the sector must be equipped with the right parts, diagnostics, technical information, and expertise to keep these vehicles within the independent channel.

Delphi is already responding to this shift, with a growing number of first-to-market product launches supporting Chinese vehicle applications. Coverage includes popular MG and BYD models across braking and steering and suspension categories, including the MG ZS, MG HS, and MG4, as well as the BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal.

Aliya Lam, Country Director UK at PHINIA, said: “The UK vehicle parc is changing, and the industry needs to change with it. Chinese vehicle manufacturers are becoming increasingly visible on our roads and, naturally, those vehicles will begin appearing inindependent workshops in greater numbers.

“That’s exactly what Make Some Noise is about. We want to start conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, while ensuring workshops have the quality parts, knowledge, and support they need to service these vehicles with confidence.

“There is a real opportunity for the independent aftermarket. Businesses that prepare now will be well positioned to service and repair this growing segment of the parc.”

Many of the Chinese vehicle applications covered by Delphi are electric vehicles, linking directly to the braking safety focus at the heart of the Make Some Noise campaign. Current coverage includes coated brake discs, conventional brake pads, and dedicated EV brake pads for a range of MG and BYD models.

The campaign also highlights the importance of quality in safety-critical braking components, encouraging workshops to account for engineering, performance, fitment accuracy, and technical support.

Lam added: “Technicians shouldn’t have to turn work away simply because a vehicle brand is unfamiliar. The aftermarket has always adapted to new technologies and vehicle types, and this is simply the next evolution. Success depends not only on having the right parts, but also on having the information and support needed to complete repairs correctly and confidently.”

Delphi’s preparation extends beyond replacement parts. Its DS diagnostic solutions support a growing number of Chinese OEMs in the UK, including BYD, MG, Maxus, JMC, Jinbei, Yuchai and Shuanghuan, with functions ranging from vehicle and battery health checks to ADAS calibration, brake service procedures, and wheel alignment.

This is complemented by Delphi’s Masters of Motion platform, which provides technical support and how-to video content to help technicians complete repairs to a high standard.

Lam concluded: “Our message is simple: these vehicles are already arriving in workshops across the UK. By preparing now, workshops can retain more work in-house, service customers with confidence, and continue offering motorists genuine choice over where they have their vehicles repaired and maintained. That’s why Chinese vehicle coverage is such an important part of Make Some Noise.”
