The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has brought together members from across the independent aftermarket to discuss ensuring a better gender balance for the aftermarket.
As part of its mission to create a more inclusive, representative and progressive industry, the federation is spearheading a movement to challenge outdated perceptions and working with business leaders to set the precedent for lasting change.
The initiative, which will build into a long-term outlook for the sector, aims to break down barriers to entry and broaden the talent pool available to the aftermarket. This includes encouraging businesses to embrace diverse skill sets from outside the industry, and explore how new roles created by AI and technology could attract more women into the sector.
“Change starts at the top,” said Mark Field, Chief Executive of IAAF. “If the aftermarket is to thrive in the years ahead, we must create an environment where everyone feels represented, respected and valued. This is about widening our reach so that we attract the very best people into our industry. A greater gender balance ensures a better, more prosperous aftermarket and a rewarding sector for career progression.
“I believe we have come a long way in our industry to overcoming outdated stereotypes and legacy perceptions, which continue to act as barriers to entry,” added Field. “By challenging these head-on, we can futureproof our industry, strengthen our businesses and inspire the next generation of aftermarket professionals.”
The IAAF will continue consulting with its members to build momentum around this initiative, with further activity to be announced in the coming months.
