Following the release of the SMMT’s used car data, showing year-on-year growth in the market and record interest in EVs. Kevan Wooden, CEO of LKQ UK & Ireland, has reacted to these latest figures – please find his comments below.
“The electric vehicle (EV) transition gained significant momentum in 2024. Record sales in the new market are resulting in a healthy supply of pre-loved vehicles, with demand buoyed as range anxiety slowly diminishes. Public charging infrastructure has expanded 38% year-on-year, with strong signals from government on further support – such as January’s £65 million commitment to invest in Connected Curb’s charging network.
“The acceleration of this evolution, combined with an aging UK car parc, means garages must prepare by investing in technician training. The LKQ Academy has pledged by 2028 to upskill 24,000 technicians across Europe in safely maintaining and repairing hybrid and electric vehicles in support of the industry’s transition.”
