GS Yuasa introduces new customer communication system
The battery manufacturer has kindly asked all customers to begin using its new contact details, with the aim of completing the transition by 1st January 2027.
As regenerative braking takes on more of the work in electric vehicles and other models with energy recovery, brakes are being used less often – and the brake disc faces a new set of demands. MEYLE’s new HD brake disc has been developed specifically for these conditions.
Regular braking wipes the disc’s friction surface clean of the thin film of surface rust that forms naturally, particularly when a vehicle stands unused or in damp conditions. With regenerative braking doing much of the work, that cleaning action happens far less often, which makes corrosion protection, friction surface condition and the pairing of disc and pad more important than ever. MEYLE says these elements should be considered together rather than in isolation – and the HD brake disc combines all three.
With MEYLE’s HD brake disc, the friction surface is enhanced using an innovative laser process. Non-friction surfaces and the ventilation channels where specified, are protected against corrosion, extending protection beyond the surfaces visible on the finished disc. Plus, the flange areas are also protected against corrosion, without the need to degrease any areas of the disc.
The disc is designed to be matched with a MEYLE Low-Met brake pad. This defined friction pairing takes brake particle emissions into account, a growing consideration for the industry as emissions regulation develops and Euro 7 comes into play.
The grey cast iron base means the disc remains familiar to technicians in design and handling. It is supplied without an oil coating, so there is no need to degrease the friction surface before fitting, removing a step from the job. MEYLE offers both the disc and pad in the range and recommends replacing in pairs for the ultimate in efficiency and performance.
For workshops and distributors, the disc also offers a clear point of difference within the brake range: a product explained not simply by the word ‘coated’, but by the interplay of changing braking behaviour in electric vehicles, advanced corrosion protection, friction surface refinement and a defined friction pairing.
Michael Hamann, Interim Head of Product Team Brakes / Drivetrain, at MEYLE, commented: “The way vehicles are designed and driven is changing and aftermarket components need to evolve with them. Our HD philosophy is about understanding where components experience the greatest stresses in real-world operation, identifying potential weak points and determining how materials, design or geometry can be optimised to create a more durable solution.
“MEYLE’s HD brake disc is a great example of that philosophy in action. It has been developed with the changing requirements of modern braking systems in mind, particularly as regenerative braking becomes increasingly common.”
MEYLE’s HD brake disc was recently named a winner at the Automechanika Innovation Awards 2026, taking the top accolade in the ‘Advanced Parts & Vehicle Technologies’ category at Automechanika Frankfurt 2026.
There are 12 new references available in MEYLE’s HD brake disc range, developed for leading electric vehicle applications including, part number 70-83 521 0002/HD for TESLA Model 3 (01/17-).
As with every MEYLE HD product, the brake disc is made of high quality materials and in this case, enhanced, long-lasting corrosion protection on both friction and non-friction surfaces. MEYLE HD parts are technically optimised versions of OE components, reinforced through improved design and higher-grade materials, and backed by a four-year guarantee.
