Exol’s Darren Frogson becomes new UKLA president

The United Kingdom Lubricants Association (UKLA) has announced Darren Frogson, CEO of Exol Lubricants, as its new president as he prepares to embrace a period of change for the industry.

As president of UKLA, Frogson will act as a voice of the industry, tackling any potential issues head on and supporting members through the transition away from the EU and towards a net-zero economy, ensuring businesses thrive in a post-Covid-19 era.

As the world moves towards a ‘net-zero’ economy, the lubricants industry is set to face a period of significant change, especially as there is growing pressure and legislation coming into force from governments on a global scale, reducing the production of internal combustion engine vehicles. However, in turn, motorists are keeping their vehicles for longer, driving up the average age of the vehicle parc.

This has created uncertainty over the future of UK trade and any new regulations that may be introduced that affect the chemicals used in formulations and sold in products.

Frogson will also work alongside the Union of the European Lubricants Association (UEIL), challenging uncompetitive practices, working with regulators to ensure fair and balanced regulations, and lobbying for the interests of all members.

With more than 25 years’ experience in the industry, Frogson has watched the sector grow and evolve and is excited about the role lubricants have to play in the future. He commented:

“It’s an exciting time as more lubricants than ever before can be made from sustainable sources, which is good news for the environment and our sector as a whole, and what we need to do now is spread this message far and wide. A lubricant by its very nature reduces friction and wear, which means we’re already making a significant contribution to energy conservation and sustainable applications, but now we need to highlight how we can provide a net-zero solution.”
