Freddie makes the podium in homeland Speedway Grand Prix

Date: Thursday 19 August 2021

Freddie Lindgren narrowly failed to win the Speedway Grand Prix in his Sweden homeland when he was once again the pick of the NGK-sponsored riders.

He finished in third place behind winner World champion Bartosz Zmarzlik and Artem Laguta in Malilla and is in third place in the 2021 FIM World Championship standings.

Lindgren was content with his night, but admits top two Zmarzlik and Laguta have too much speed for the competition currently.

He said:

“I feel pretty good. I think I executed this meeting really well. I was feeling fast all night. It was just a shame I couldn’t make it happen in the final.
“Again, Zmarzlik and Artem Laguta were too strong. Congratulations to both of them. They are one step ahead of the rest of us at the moment.
“I finished in third place, but overall I am very happy. I wish I could have won. It didn’t happen this time, but I thought I rode really well in pretty tough conditions early on after the rain.”

NGK stablemate Russian Emil Sayfutdinov made the semi-final stage to put himself in fourth place in the 2021 championship race while there were SGP heat wins for NGK riders triple World champion Tai Woffinden, who is now in sixth position in the standings, and Britain’s Robert Lambert and Slovenian Matej Zagar.

John Money, who handles Speedway sponsorship on behalf of NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said:

“Freddie has been performing really impressively recently and is pushing the leaders hard at each Grand Prix. Both he, and Emil, are still very much in contention in the title race.”

Ignition specialist NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd is a long-time supporter of Speedway with its sponsored SGP riders’ bikes all fitted with its spark plugs. The NGK logo is also featured on the riders’ boards and heat boards at each Grand Prix.

The next SGP will be held in Togliatti, Russia on Saturday, August 28.
