IAAF Activity Report – week ending 17 February 2023

Date: Friday 17 February 2023

It’s been another eventful week at IAAF, with lots of meetings held and key changes taking place, as we continue to set plans in motion for 2023.

This week we held our AGM and council meetings, where we have defined some clear actions across data, skills, training and access to repair and maintenance information – we look forward to developing the sections in the coming year.

As the AGM was an open invite, it was the highest-attended meeting for a number of years, and it was great to see so many members come along to find out the latest updates directly from the board.

New-look council for 2023
This week saw the formation of our new council, with some well-known and highly regarded industry names announced – all of whom will help to shape the IAAF and our plans for the coming year.

We also welcomed our new president, Craig McCracken, group factor manager at Arnold Clark Autoparts.

Craig succeeds immediate past president Richard Welland and will remain on the IAAF board, alongside Richard, honorary treasurer Lawrence Bleasdale and chief executive Mark Field.

Our new head of garage section, Tina Drayson, operations director, CCM and head of commercial vehicle section, Sue McKay, global category manager CV at TMD Friction, were also officially announced.

This week’s meetings
We’ve had meetings with FIGIEFA and the DVSA, and on a positive note, the MOT consultation has been extended by a further three weeks, which gives companies more time to submit their responses. The closing date for responses is now 22nd March.

Automechanika Garage Awards, hosted by IAAF
Work is progressing well on the Automechanika Garage Awards, which will be hosted by IAAF on 7th June – we’ve received more than 50 nominations in just under three weeks and are looking forward to seeing more roll in over the coming weeks. Please keep spreading the word and let's celebrate and recognise the brilliant garage businesses we have in our industry.

New Garage Programme
We have news coming on our garage programme, which now has over 1,500 members, and on the increasing restrictions garages face to accessing data, following a survey we’re conducting in collaboration with UK AFCAR.
