James goes from podium to pain…

Date: Thursday 08 July 2021

There were highs and lows for NGK-sponsored motorcycle star James Alderson at Donington Park last weekend.

For after winning the first heat of the BSB Pirelli Junior Superstock championship he suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second race to curtail his meeting.

He said:

“Friday free practice was difficult as I was struggling to get a good feeling with the bike, however we made some changes and it felt good for a dry qualifying. However, the weather took a turn for the worse and the heavens opened for our qualifying session. Being the first wet session of the weekend, we lacked confidence and only managed a 13th place start for the race in the afternoon.
“We made some big changes to the bike for the race for more confidence in the wet conditions and it paid off, and on that Saturday afternoon we managed our first British Championship podium and win.
”Sunday’s race 2 didn’t go to plan as the weather was undecided. On the weather apps it should have been pouring down, however it was hot and sunny. The race ended up being dry and we suffered a twist grip fault which was causing the grip on the throttle body to move so I completely messed my start up and dropped back. Feeling good I managed to make my way into 7th place, however I was just pushing a little too hard and out of the last corner we had a massive high side and I dislocated my shoulder which unfortunately meant the end of our weekend.
“Racing brings some hard downs but what matters more is how you come back and once I am fit and ready, we will be back fighting again for that top step. Just like to say a massive thanks to all my sponsors for making it happen.”

Ignition and sensor specialist NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said:

“It was a great performance by James to gain top spot on the podium in his first race only for him then to suffer misfortune in his next race. His weekend demonstrated the challenges faced by riders which is what makes motorcycle racing so exciting for fans.”
