LKQ Euro Car Parts invests in new vehicles to support increased demand for hybrid training

The UK’s leading supplier of car and van parts has taken delivery of three brand new hybrid vehicles, in response to record demand for hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) training courses.

LKQ Euro Car Parts will train more than 1,500 technicians in hybrid and EV repair this year through its AutoEducation Academy. Courses are available at levels two, three and four, and all are part of the IMI’s Tech Safe Scheme.

Level two covers routine maintenance activities and terminology, as well as providing technicians with a thorough understanding of the construction and function of hybrid-electric systems.

Level three builds on this with system repair and replacement training, more advanced electrical regeneration, rectification and regulation skills, while level four extends further into diagnostics, testing and advanced repairs.

Adam White, workshop solutions director at LKQ Euro Car Parts, said:

“The government’s deadline on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles is less than nine years away, and many manufacturers are setting themselves more ambitious targets between now and then. With only five per cent of technicians currently trained on hybrid and electric vehicles, now is the time for the rest to catch up.

“Our AutoEducation Academy gives technicians the skills and knowledge they need to take advantage of this key revenue stream and run successful businesses, now and in the future. Hybrids are already relatively common in the independent aftermarket and it won’t be long before EVs are too.”

LKQ Euro Car Parts is also encouraging garages to invest more broadly in the services they offer, to ensure they remain competitive and always provide a professional customer experience to the end user.

This means upskilling technicians to work on the vehicles of the future – with courses on high voltage components, advanced diagnostics, ADAS and more – and to work for the customers of the future, through ensuring best-practice in areas like marketing, social media and customer service.
