Mintex opens two championship seasons at Donington Park

Date: Tuesday 12 April 2022

Mintex provided the stopping power at the season openers of the Focus Cup and EnduroKA Series, which took place at Donington Park circuit 2nd-3rd April.

The Focus Cup and EnduroKA Series are one-make championships racing at iconic venues across the UK, with the whole field across both race meetings using Mintex front and rear brake pads and discs.

Richard Barton, category manager at TMD Friction, said:

“We’re delighted to be the sole supplier of braking components to the two championships, which brilliantly represents grass roots motorsport in the UK. It proves cost needn’t be a barrier to competing, with all races at Donington Park providing closely fought battles throughout the field.”

The Focus Cup sees a field of 22, identical 2.0 litre, 175 horsepower Ford Focus Zetec S cars all fitted with Mintex brakes competing across a qualifying session and two races.

The first Focus Cup meeting of the year saw Scott Parkin take maximum points with pole position in qualifying followed up with two race wins. Liam McGill leaves the Leicestershire venue second in the points, seven behind leader Parkin after scoring a bonus haul for the fastest lap.

Meanwhile in the EnduroKA Series, where competitors take to the track in a 1.3 litre, 2002-2008 model Ford KA with control front suspension and Mintex front brakes, the Yippee-KA-Yay team of Ben Gillias and Mark Johnson won the five-hour long race, completing 172 laps and finishing 55 seconds ahead of the Track Focused squad of Michael McCollum, Sean Cooper and Neil Smith.

The second round of the Focus Cup is at Silverstone National on 23rd April, with the next race meeting in the EnduroKA Series featuring a six-hour long race at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on 7th May.

Alongside the Focus Cup and EnduroKA championships, Mintex is taking to the circuit and stages across various UK motorsport disciplines throughout 2022.

Mintex brake pads and discs are engineered to provide friction stability, comfort and consistently high performance over a wide temperature range and stopping distances.
