Newell & Wright Motorsport finishes BTRC season on high

Date: Thursday 25 November 2021

The British Truck Racing Championships (BTRC) 2021 came to an exciting end on 6th and 7th November at Brands Hatch, with Textar-sponsored Newell & Wright successfully finishing in fourth place.

Brands Hatch brought things to a spectacular close with a parade of trucks and a fantastic fireworks display in front of a bumper crowd.

Driver John Newell started the weekend qualifying fifth, leading to a podium finish in third place in the first race of the opening day. Unfortunately, Newell’s New Generation MAN TGS truck suffered some damage in the last race of day one, John fought his way to second place then third, but the damage to the truck meant he finished seventh.

Day two got off to a flying start, with Newell racing to fourth place in race one and a podium finish in race two as he gained second place. These standings secured Newell his fourth place victory in the championships for 2021.

Newell comments:

“I’d like to thank all at Textar for the support this year along with the Textar customers and supporters that attend the season events - and a huge congratulations to all the drivers.
“After a short break we’ll be back in the simulator and making modifications to the truck to come back fighting and chasing the title in 2022.”

Discussing how he prepares for a new season, John explains that along with racing in the simulator, they hire a track for the day to undertake test sessions to ensure the truck is in top condition to head back onto the circuit.

By fitting Textar braking products, the Newell & Wright Motorsport race truck has the perfect combination of superior braking performance, long service life and low disc and drum wear.

The BTRC was back with a bang this year after the 2020 season was cut short due to the pandemic. Spectators were also allowed back into the stands this year, adhering to government guidelines, to watch all of the action. Race events were also shown live during race weekends via YouTube.

Fleet operators can find Textar’s latest brake disc range via Brakebook, the brand’s online catalogue. This virtual platform allows users to search for multiple part numbers, create their own personalised catalogue and offers weekly updates.
