Nic Hamilton to race in 2023 BTCC

Date: Wednesday 12 April 2023

British racing driver Nic Hamilton – who is supported by Niterra UK Ltd’s NGK ignition brand – has confirmed he is to drive Team HARD. Racing’s Cupra Leon in the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season.

This will be Hamilton’s fifth consecutive season in the BTCC and his fourth with the team with which he scored his first points in the series in 2020.

Hamilton will be taking to the wheel of the Team HARD. Cupra Leon for its third campaign in the UK's premier motorsport series and after a string of competitive showings last season, he will once again be looking to secure points and compete for the Jack Sears Trophy.

There is great excitement for what a third year in the CUPRA Leon and the second with Hamilton’s brake servo system fitted to the car will bring as both he and the team continue to develop and refine its technology.

He said:

“I am so grateful and blessed to be back on the BTCC grid with Team HARD. for 2023. Continuity is everything and I feel right at home with the team as I look to develop on the overall pace improvement I found in 2022.
“Both the car and team look to be in a great position going into this year and so I cannot wait to get started and work alongside both my returning and new teammates.”

Hamilton, the brother of seven-time World Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, has a long-standing relationship with the NGK brand.

Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, Niterra UK Ltd, said:

“Nic is a tremendously inspirational ambassador for the NGK brand and British motorsport. We are so pleased that he is once again racing the Team HARD. Racing’s Cupra Leon in this year’s BTCC championship when I’m sure he will once again demonstrate his incredible determination on track in front of his many supporters.”

Team HARD. Racing’s Managing Director Tony Gilham said:

“We are thrilled to announce that Nic will be staying with our team for the upcoming 2023 season. This will be our third season with the CUPRA Leon, and we are excited to continue our partnership with Nic as we strive to improve and excel on the track.
“Nic has already been a tremendous asset to our team, and his dedication to developing his skills as a driver has led to significant progress over the past three seasons. We are confident that he will continue to be an integral part of our success in the upcoming season.”
