Oldfields Garage rallies aftermarket support for local Young Drivers Experience

Leominster-based Oldfields Garage has rallied the support of the UK automotive aftermarket ahead of the ELY Young Drivers Experience, an event organised by The ELY Memorial Fund aimed at educating 14 to 17 year-olds in Herefordshire on road safety.

Held at Herefordshire, Ludlow & North Shropshire College on 23 - 26 July, the event includes two hours of driving on a controlled course. Interactive workshops are also being held to cover basic car maintenance, first aid and a demonstration on the effects of alcohol and drugs by West Mercia Police.

Offering his expertise on the importance of vehicle maintenance, Tim Benson of Oldfields Garage will deliver a series of talks throughout the duration of the event.

“Educating teenagers about vehicle maintenance aligns perfectly with the fund’s commitment to promoting safe driving practices in our community,” said Tim Benson of Oldfields Garage.

In support of Tim’s efforts, Castrol, PAGID, and Ring are each contributing freebies for those attending his talks. Additionally, national parts supplier LKQ Euro Car Parts is providing a selection of parts, allowing the children to see the components firsthand as Tim explains their relevance to road safety.

“Regular vehicle maintenance is crucial for road safety because it ensures that your car operates at its best,” said Tim. “From brakes and tyres to lights and fluids, every component plays a role in keeping you and others safe on the road.

“At Oldfields Garage, we emphasise the importance of proactive maintenance to prevent breakdowns and maintain optimal performance, ultimately contributing to safer roads.”

The ELY Memorial Fund was established in memory of Emma Louise Young, who tragically lost her life in a road traffic collision at just 23. It helps families in Herefordshire facing financial difficulties after losing a child in a road traffic collision. The fund also focuses on improving road safety for young drivers to reduce accidents in this age group.

Ange Tyler, founder of The ELY Memorial Fund and mother of Emma, said: “We are hugely grateful to Tim who has offered his support to help our Young Drivers Experience, along with his wider connections in the motor industry. We are all committed to stop the unnecessary road deaths within the age group 17-25. Educating them at the age 14-17 will give them life skills as they start to learn to drive.” 

Such is the community's enthusiasm for the ELY Young Drivers Experience, tickets have now sold-out.
