Shaftec launches new range of axle shafts and extends caliper programme

Shaftec, the business named after the remanufactured driveshaft programme it brought into the UK aftermarket, has done it again. This time with the introduction of a new range of axle shafts. At launch, the programme will comprise five parts, cater for applications from 2007 to date, and include references to fit: Mercedes Sprinter, VW Crafter, and Nissan Navarra. The programme will be increased in due course according to market demand.

In addition, the expert supplier of remanufactured and new Drive. Steer. Stop. Parts has extended its remanufactured caliper programme. Eight new references (four new pairs) are now available from Shaftec and include products for: Audi A3 2012 onwards, VW Golf VII 2013 – 2020, Hyundai I30 2012 onwards, and Renault Grand Scenic III 2014 onwards.

What does an axle shaft do?
Axle shafts allow the transmission to transfer motion to the vehicle’s wheels. They are sometimes known as half shafts, and you have two per axle (so four for 4wd) and each one transmits an equal amount of power from the transaxle to the wheels. The inner end of the shaft is supported and driven by the differential while the outer end is supported in bearings between the shaft and axle housing. The bearings have either built-in or separate oil seals and can be either: ball bearings, taper roller bearings (both with inner races), or straight roller bearings which use the axle shaft as the inner race.
