Shaftec takes on charity challenges for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice

Date: Friday 09 June 2023

Five Shaftec employees are set to test themselves - and in some cases face their fears - as they take on a series of sponsored challenges in 2023 to raise money for the Coventry branch of Zoë’s Place baby hospice. The money raised will join funds collected in a series of ongoing internal initiatives, as the Birmingham based business looks to hand over more than £3,300 this year - the cost of keeping the hospice open and running for just one day.

Shaftec’s marketing manager, Adrian Kitchen and warehouse operative, Luke Hopkins, will be first up (literally!) when they put on their hiking boots at 2am on 2nd July to take part in the six-hour Snowdon Sunrise Challenge. On 19th August, goods in supervisor, George Drennan will bravely take to the skies and jump out of a plane at 14,000 feet in a Tandem Skydive, and hot on his heels, Steve Healy, Shaftec’s technical cataloguer will be joined by chief executive officer, Mitesh Thanki on 1st September to participate in a Wing Walk on the top wing of a 1940’s Boeing Stearman biplane.

Mitesh Thanki, CEO, explains:

“With the Shaftec business literally ‘born and bred’ in the Midlands, we want to give something back to the local community. And with a great many of us being parents, Zoë’s Place has captured our hearts. We want to raise awareness, and as much money as we can as the charity is truly inspiring and makes such a difference to families at a very hard time. Every single penny raised will go towards the astronomical costs of keeping the hospice open. So please, please dig deep and support our efforts.”

With fundraising efforts such as a weekly lottery whereby half the proceeds are donated, as well as a new business initiative of a £1 donation for every unit which passes through Shaftec’s Reman & Return service, the company has been supporting Zoë’s Place, for the past two years. The charity which also has hospices in Middlesbrough and Liverpool, provides a short break service, palliative and end-of-life care to babies and infants aged from birth to 5 years, living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
