SMP Europe recognised with zero waste to landfill certificate

Date: Tuesday 21 May 2024

Engine management specialist, SMP Europe, has announced it has received the prestigious Zero Waste to Landfill Certificate for 2023, highlighting its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible waste management practices.

This accolade, achieved through diligent efforts and strategic initiatives, underscores SMP Europe's dedication to reducing its environmental footprint while fostering a culture of sustainability within the business.

SMP Europe's journey towards achieving this accolade has been driven by a series of comprehensive initiatives aimed at developing environmental practices throughout its daily operations.

Central to SMP Europe's sustainability endeavours is its ISO14001 accreditation, which provides specific criteria for environmental management. This served as a key driver, motivating the company to adopt proactive measures towards waste reduction.

The brand also partnered with a waste management company who advised and implement tailored solutions to streamline waste removal processes across its operational platforms.

SMP Europe as a whole and its employees has implemented a collective commitment to driving and maintaining its environmental goals – and keep its ISO14001 certification. The brand carries out regular monitoring to ensure targets put in place are met, fostering accountability and driving continuous improvement in waste management practices.

The company has cultivated a sustainability culture within the business, creating a presentation about its waste management initiatives for all staff – which is now part of the onboarding process for new starters. This ensures all staff members are equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools to actively participate in waste management initiatives.

Clear signage and guidelines are on display at its centre of excellence head office in Nottingham to highlight the importance of recycling, energy conservation, and water-saving measures, further embedding sustainability into the company's culture.

Ian Molyneux, quality manager at SMP Europe, heads up the company’s sustainability initiatives, he comments: While change often encounters resistance, both management and employees all bought into our waste reduction changes and practices easily and quickly, which has been helpful in driving forward – and achieving the Zero Waste to Landfill certificate.”

Molyneux adds: “This accolade sets an example for industry peers and reaffirms our pledge towards a greener, more sustainable future.”
