Third workshop survey findings from Comma

Date: Monday 27 April 2020

As the UK enters its fifth week of the Coronavirus restrictions on movement and social distancing, in a third poll undertaken for leading aftermarket lubricant brand, Comma, workshops revealed how they’re feeling and coping in the current situation.

The survey of workshops from across the UK found that 8 out of ten respondents were open (Friday 17th April) and the same number expected to still be open ‘in a fortnight’s time’ – in contrast to previous weeks findings, nearly 40% of those currently closed expected to be re-open, albeit partly, within a fortnight – although nearly 1 in 5 of those trading on a ‘part open’ basis expect to be closed in a fortnight’s time.

For the first time, the survey asked workshops their status vis-à-vis the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme: 7 out of 10 workshops have not considered applying for one of the loans and a further 2 out of ten workshops have considered but not progressed an application.

Workshops continue to be primarily concerned about customer demand and parts availability but overall, concern about implementing hygiene and social distancing practices along with staffing numbers remain relatively low concerns for workshops.
