Unlucky weekend for NGK-sponsored motorcycle stars

Date: Friday 02 July 2021

There was disappointment for NGK-sponsored Chrissy Rouse in the opening Pirelli National Superstock race of the year.

Rouse, the defending champion, crashed out of fourth place on the final corner of the last lap of the race at Oulton Park on his GR Motorsport team Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

He said:

“I went a little bit defensive into the final turn and went down. It didn’t look like anyone was directly behind us, but I was just going defensive to make sure no one could pass us – but that’s my mistake.
“I’m really disappointed to come away with zero points, but I got stuck in and did my best – so now it’s on to Knockhill.”

Meanwhile, in the Pirelli Junior Superstock championship NGK stablemate James Alderson claimed pole position for heat one but an accident scuppered his chance of victory. However, in the second heat he finished in sixth place at the Cheshire circuit.

He said:

“We claimed our first British championship pole position, with this we were feeling really good for the race. Managing a good start, I was in second place after the first lap however a small mistake cost us our chances as running into the first corner, I lost the front. We were gutted to crash out of the race especially starting from pole position.”

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said:

“Chrissy was extremely unlucky for his race to end on the final lap and will be looking for better things at the next round of the championship at Knockhill on July 10 & 11.
“However, it was a great performance by James to claim his first pole and then after the disappointment of the first race to claim a creditable sixth place. I’m sure NGK customers who are motorcycle fans will be looking forward to seeing both these exciting riders back in action.”
