WAI helps eliminate range anxiety with new top-up power bank

Date: Thursday 27 April 2023

Leading rotating electrics supplier and electric vehicle (EV) charging cable specialist WAI has unveiled the Recharge 2000, which can provide EV charging top-ups of up to eight miles plus device charging via USB.

The extra mileage provided by the 2.2kW power bank will help to eliminate range anxiety with the additional range designed to get drivers to their nearest recharging station should the worst happen.

Richard Welland, managing director at WAI, said:

“The new EV portable charger is set to revolutionise EV ownership, by mitigating concerns of vehicle range. With the UK charging network expanding, more chargers are available than before and the top-up range offered by the Recharge 2000 should help EV drivers plan journeys, and keep devices charged when range is not an issue.”

The Recharge 2000 portable charger from WAI even supports charging of the unit via solar panel, with both photovoltaic and DC input. The unit’s robust but compact build means the charger can be kept stored in an electric vehicle to rapidly top up an EV’s battery in an emergency.

The Recharge 2000 features four USB outputs including one USB-C output for quick recharging of devices across several charging modes including PD60W, 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, and 20V/3A. There are three DC outputs, two of which are 12V, plus two universal AC sockets.

The high-quality lithium-ion batteries offer 600,000mAh (2200wA) capacity meaning the unit is up to the challenge of storing enough charge to power several devices, and top-up a vehicle’s battery to get drivers and passengers home comfortably.

WAI will demonstrate its latest innovations, including the Recharge 2000, at automotive trade exhibition Automechanika Birmingham, taking place at Birmingham’s NEC from June 6th-8th.
