With rave reviews, dual mass flywheel technology took centre-stage in the latest Schaeffler REPXPERT ‘Tea-break training’ session

Date: Thursday 04 February 2021

‘Great work, much appreciated’, ‘Thanks for the advice’, ‘Brilliant once again’. These and many more positive responses were the messages left as participants logged out of the latest Schaeffler REPXPERT ‘Tea-Break training’ session, the company’s first to focus on dual mass flywheel (DMF) technology.

Around 200 people took part across the three sessions, reflecting the interest shown by workshops in the topic. The presentation; “Movin’ with the Times”, was the first of three sessions focusing on DMF technology, and as usual closed with an extensive Q&A session that ended up covering many other topics!

“The first slide that made attendees sit-up and take note was one which made clear that, despite all the talk about electric vehicles, the DMF will remain a key service item for at least the next ten years”, said Schaeffler Technical Manager and REPXPERT, Alistair Mason.

Demonstrating the complexity of the technology, one area of confusion within the workshop community was addressed early on with the question ‘how much DMF movement is too much?’. The answer was clear and concise: ‘there is no fixed standard, it varies from application to application, although all of the tolerances can be found in the free REPXPERT app!’

Common installation issues was another essential topic to be put under the spotlight, with the importance of using the correct size and specification bolts among the many best practice examples fed to the information hungry audience. It was also highlighted how correct tools, such as a DMF tool or self-adjusting clutch tool kit, can simplify all replacements as well as deliver consistently successful and professional results.

The next ‘Tea-break training’ sessions will put the focus back on INA, with module two of the cooling system program: ‘Switch on the Heat’. Training will take place on Tuesday 9th February at 12:30 and Wednesday 10th February at 12:30 & 18:30.

INA Cooling systems module three, ‘Managing the Heat’, has three sessions scheduled for Tuesday 16th March at 12:30 and Wednesday 17th March at 12:30 & 18:30.

The focus returns to LuK DMF technology with module 2 - ‘Customer Challenges’ on Tuesday 23rd February at 12:30 and Wednesday 24th at 12:30 & 18:30. The final DMF module - ‘Technology on the Horizon’, will take place on Tuesday 30th March at 12:30 and Wednesday 31st at 12:30 & 18:30.

As has now become the norm, registration is available via the Tea-break training button on the REPXPERT website, as well as via social media posts and newsletters sent to members. Anybody who has attended a Schaeffler REPXPERT Academy or any other Schaeffler or OESAA training event will also receive an email invitation. Alternatively just click here.
