IAAF successfully challenges VMs on access

Friday 4 Apr 2025

After a very difficult few weeks for the wider automotive industry, IAAF has successfully ensured vehicle manufacturer compliance in accordance with block exemption legislation.

More VMs are now providing independent operators with access to in-vehicle data and information.

The Independent Aftermarket has always risen to the challenge created by increasing vehicle technology, but although the UK Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order has been revised to support the continued ability of independent repairers to compete with main dealers by reflecting the new ways of accessing in-vehicle data and new repair methods, not all vehicle manufacturers have been compliant with these new requirements, creating significant obstacles for independent workshops.

The IAAF has equally risen to the challenge of ensuring that true competition and consumer choice is being upheld and have recently challenged several vehicle manufacturers concerning these compliance requirements resulting in its members, and the wider aftermarket, now being able to provide their competing products and services.

Mark Field, IAAF Chief Executive, said: “We will continue to challenge any lack of compliance to ensure our members, and the wider aftermarket, are able to provide their competing products and services to ensure choice for the motorist.”
