Independent used car retailer Motorpoint has opened the doors to its newly upgraded flagship site in Derby, marking the midway point of its ambitious workshop modernisation programme being delivered by LKQ Euro Car Parts.
The project represents the latest step in Motorpoint’s efforts to bolster its in-house workshop capabilities across its 21 stores and two preparation centres, as it seeks to expand its services to support customers through the entire car ownership cycle, including preparing cars for sale.
This collaboration represents the latest step in a long-standing partnership between the two businesses, with LKQ Euro Car Parts holding the position of first-line supplier to Motorpoint’s store network. The business is also the exclusive training provider to Motorpoint’s technicians through its LKQ Academy, having created a Motorpoint-specific course with a tailored assessment to encourage best-in-class service for customers – highlighting the business’ end-to-end service offering for garages.
This partnership played a key role in the introduction of Motorpoint’s MOT servicing capability, with LKQ Euro Car Parts supporting with DVSA approval, installation, tester training and MOT managers training. Underpinned by a £1.5m investment, the new strategy has seen the business already MOT over 6,000 vehicles in its first year.
As part of the partnership, 12 other Motorpoint workshops have also been upgraded, with technicians benefitting from state-of-the-art service, maintenance and repair facilities including exhaust extraction systems, EV-capable lift machinery, ADAS diagnostic equipment and more, supplied and installed entirely by LKQ Euro Car Parts’ workshop solutions team
Work is now underway to modernise other sites across the branch network, with the program expected to finish in early 2026.
Mike Bell, head of workshop solutions and sales at LKQ UK and Ireland, said: “What we’ve achieved with Motorpoint is a tangible example of what we can deliver beyond just car parts. Our partnership is built on a shared commitment to best-in-class service – which means having the tools and equipment to complete every job on every vehicle to the highest standard. It’s also about creating a working environment where talented technicians can succeed and enjoy rewarding careers, with opportunities for ongoing training and development.”
“As the aftermarket continues to evolve at pace, our ambition is that Motorpoint and all the other partners who work with us to upgrade their workshops will reap the benefits for many years to come.”
Curtis Ainsworth, Head of Vehicle Preparation at Motorpoint, said: “The transformation of our Derby workshop is a pivotal step in Motorpoint’s strategy to deliver comprehensive vehicle ownership support, not just at the point of sale, but throughout the entire customer lifecycle. From day one, we’ve had a clear vision: to create a national infrastructure that enables us to offer service plans, warranty repairs, MOTs and general maintenance with the same choice, value, speed and quality that underpin our retail proposition.
We chose to partner with LKQ because they understand the scale of our ambition and share our commitment to quality, innovation, and efficiency. Their support has been instrumental in delivering a facility that meets our exacting standards and sets the benchmark for the future of our aftersales network.”
