The Employment Rights Act has finally been passed.
It seems a long time ago that Labour put employment rights at the heart of their manifesto. Since then we’ve had drastic amendments to the bill, delayed timelines and several rounds of ‘ping pong’ between the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Even now the Act has passed, most changes don’t take effect immediately – they’ll be staggered throughout 2026 and 2027.
So it’s understandable if you’re still not sure what the law says. You’re not alone:
- 40% of workers say they don’t understand the new unfair dismissal protections
- 37% don’t understand how changes to holiday entitlements affect them
- 21% do not understand the changes to parental leave at all.
Luckily, specialist employment law and litigation solicitors Spencer Shaw have covered the key changes, the likely impact, and the dates you need to prepare for.
